Top Three Search Marketing Trends for 2006

The eStrategyOne Buzz:

Our friends at Marketing Sherpa have just released their second annual Search Marketing Benchmark Guide. A portion of the guide is excerpted in this pdf from their website which summarizes these three top search trends for 2006:

  • Search Engines as TV Networks
  • SEO Still Small Portion of Total Search Marketing Spend
  • Search Marketing a New Application for Press Releases

Wired magazine and others have already predicted Yahoo! will emerge as the TV/video network powerhouse of the future. Stay tuned, film at 11.

Understand Your Market

Gobala Krishnan:

Instead of teaching them about residual income and the power of duplication which they are not interested in, wouldn't your message be more effective if you taught them how to earn a comfortable retirement income, or how to replace their current income instead?

The point is this - as a home based entrepreneur you must understand your target market's need, and serve them well. You should focus on being the best in providing the cure, not the best in preaching about the prevention. Focus on customer needs, and they will flock to you.

Network Marketing Magic

There is one thing you can do to make your Network Marketing business grow like magic. Work.

Dale Moore of Modern Networking talks about The Missing Ingredients in Network Marketing:

In a past Network Marketing business, I was involved in a conversation with an individual who said to me, with pride, that he had been in the business for 3 years. I being new, thought that sounded like an accomplishment of sorts, thinking if he had been around that long he must be successful. Little did I know that this person liked to talk about the time he had been involved with the business but he never talked about the amount of time he spent building his business.
How do we avoid becoming like this individual? That's a good question. I understand that endurance is important but by itself does not build a successful business. So how do we measure success before the money starts coming in? Again, a good question.
Here's how I see it.
  • Spending time without purpose is just enduring.
  • Endurance by itself is just time spent belonging to something, not building a business.

So what is the missing ingredient? Activity. Constant activity with purpose. Meaning, scheduling time throughout the day to call the people who have shown interest in your business. Be they one's you've talked to personally or following up on opt-in leads. Also, scheduling time to visit with individuals and business owners that could benefit from your products. Constant activity with purpose = paycheck.

Can Blogging Get Someone Elected?

From Fast Company:

I read recently where another politician has engaged a blog as a campaign tool. As the 2006 elections get closer, we are going to see more and more of the politicians and their advisors jumping on the blog bandwagon or as I preach, "drinking the blog Kool-Aid." As these candidates start to get up to speed with the blogs, you will begin to see groups of republican bloggers and democrat bloggers, all banding together for what I'm predicting will be a Blog War 2006.

Consultants and designers will be on full tilt demand as each side vies for the lead position in the Blog War. Battles will be won or lost on the best talent of blogger, and the best of the PR people helping spin posts and respond to comments. Those with the most readers will get the best publicity, and the one with the most links will win at the polling places. As go the blogs so do the candidates.

We already saw what the 2004 elections did with the power of blogs. That power will now be harnessed into a single focus and that will be to elect someone to an office. Albeit only a single tool, it may prove to be the most powerful tool in the hands of the proper team.

If blogging has the potential to get someone elected, what can it do for your small business?

The Passport Challenge

Remember the Pepsi Challenge? Pepsi Cola would compare their product side by side with Coca Cola and if I recall, most people preferred the taste of Pepsi. The MLM Blog is going to do a similar challenge starting with Anti-Oxidant nutritional supplements from Quixtar and Passport LLC. We aren't going to compare the taste, we are going to compare ingredients and price.

Quixtar Nutrilite® Antioxidant Complex

Retail Price: $87.90
90 Tablets
30 Day Supply

Includes: Pine bark, grape seed and grape skin blend, N-Acetyl cysteine, green tea extract, Quercetin, Alpha lipoic acid, and Rosemary extract.

Passport LLC Summit Nutritionals AntiOx Plus

Retail Price: $18.95
60 Tablets
30 Day Supply

Includes: Vitamins A, C and D, Grape Seed Extract, Green Tea Leaf Extract, N-Acetyl cysteine, Lipoic acid, Silymarin (from milk thistle seed extract), Schizandra berry extract (9% schizandrins), Fo-ti root extract (10% anthraquiones), and Bioperine® standardized black pepper extract (95-97% piperine).

As you can see, Passport's product has ingredients that Quixtar's does not, and vice versa, but many of the ingredients are the same. The mg of each are not always equal, but I don't think it's a stretch to say that the products are similar.

Soooo.....

Why is Quixtar's product over 4.5 times the cost of Passport's product?

Break It Down - Network Marketing

Network Marketing

Let's start with "Network" or better yet, "Networking"...according to Websters:

To interact or engage in informal communication with others for mutual assistance or support.

If you have ever been on the "presentee" end of a Network Marketing presentation, you have a fair idea that this portion of our industry is overlooked. I have to wonder whether or not we really understand what we have our hands on. If we (as an industry) could get back to the basics of true mutual assistance and support, we would improve the perception of our business overnight.

Also according to Websters, Marketing:

The commercial functions involved in transferring goods from producer to consumer.

Network Marketing is simply another way to move goods from the producer to the consumer. Pro-MLMers and Anti-MLMers alike are guilty of complicating this.

The amount of money you make in Network Marketing (scams not included) will depend only on the amount of goods you transfer from the producer to the consumer, either through direct retail sales or sales through your network.

Want to know how much money you will make in Network Marketing? Use this handy chart below.

  • Move a lot of goods - Make a lot of money
  • Move a little bit of goods - Make a little bit of money
  • Move no goods - Make no money
